How to Document Testing, Methodology, and Expertise on Your Website

Explain how you reached the conclusion a reader is being asked to trust. A short method note can be more useful than a long list of credentials.

Show a method that answers the buying question

Imagine a fictional office-chair comparison. The writer records seat dimensions, adjustment range, test duration and the surfaces used. They explain that a short indoor check cannot establish long-term durability. Now a reader can judge which observations matter to their own situation.

Use a compact method note

Include the question, items or inputs, conditions, procedure, decision criteria, date and limitations. State whether an item was bought, borrowed or supplied when that relationship matters. If the page is only a desk-based comparison of published specifications, say so instead of implying hands-on testing.

Connect the method to the conclusion

For the fictional chairs, an observed difference in adjustment range may support a fit comparison. It does not establish which chair will last longest. Show the relevant measurement beside the conclusion, and mark missing evidence. Readers should not have to infer how a test result became a recommendation.

Make authorship factual

Describe the author’s relevant work accurately and link an author or methods page where it adds context. A person can explain a subject clearly without claiming a certification or professional role they do not have. Do not invent a reviewer, customer result or testing history to fill a template.

Keep the record usable

Retain the supporting notes and permitted artifacts so the team can correct or update the page. If the method changes, explain what changed rather than silently comparing incompatible results. Before publication, ask a colleague to trace one conclusion back to the evidence. If they cannot, improve the explanation before adding another trust badge.

Audit your page before you rewrite it

AEO Improvement checks visible technical, content, and AI-readiness signals. Use the results as a prioritized starting point, then validate changes against your real audience and Search Console data.
